Auckland, New Zealand – November 23, 2025

After 16 years of operation, the popular online discount retailer NZSale has officially ceased all operations in New Zealand as of today, Sunday, November 23, 2025. The closure marks the end of a significant era in local e-commerce and means Christmas shoppers will need to find alternative sources for the deep discounts the site was known for.

Launched in 2009, NZSale operated on a “flash sale” model, offering steep discounts on fashion, lifestyle, and luxury goods for a limited time. Stock was typically sourced from suppliers only after sales concluded, a model that often led to frustratingly long delivery times and was a consistent source of customer complaints in recent years.

The closure of the New Zealand arm is part of a broader corporate consolidation strategy affecting its parent company, MySale Group, which was recently acquired by Accent Group. Its sister sites, OzSale in Australia and SingSale in Singapore, are also winding down, with OzSale scheduled to close its sites and operations on January 27, 2026.

Crucial Information for Customers

The immediate closure has left former customers scrambling for information, particularly regarding pending orders and returns. NZSale has issued a final update on its policy, adhering strictly to consumer protection laws but eliminating previous discretionary services:

  • Change-of-Mind Returns Void: Customers will no longer be able to return items due to having changed their minds, nor will the site process exchanges for size, colour, or preference. This “no change-of-mind” policy was actually implemented earlier, from October 23, 2025, in anticipation of the shutdown.
  • Faulty or Damaged Items: The company has confirmed it will honour its legal obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act. Customers whose items arrive faulty or damaged will still be eligible for assistance and a refund. However, they must contact the Customer Service team by December 23, 2025, via the dedicated customer service email to process the refund promptly.
  • Account Access: Customers can no longer log into their accounts as of today, November 23, 2025.

The closure of the entire MySale network—which at its peak operated 12 websites across five countries—comes amidst significant turbulence in the wider online retail sector, where local marketplaces have struggled to maintain scale and profitability against global giants like Amazon and Temu.

A History Marked by Growth and Controversy

NZSale and its affiliated sites, founded in 2007 by brothers Jamie and Carl Jackson, became a popular fixture for bargain hunters in New Zealand. At its height, the platform provided a valuable channel for brands to offload surplus or end-of-season stock.

However, the company’s history has been marked by more than just shipping delays. In recent years, NZSale faced significant scrutiny from the Commerce Commission:

  • Unsafe Products: In 2018, NZSale was fined $74,000 in the North Shore District Court after pleading guilty to charges related to the sale of children’s nightwear that failed to meet applicable fire safety standards.
  • Misleading Practices: The company was also subject to court-enforceable undertakings to resolve investigations into the sale of counterfeit Beats headphones and allegations of using unsubstantiated strikethrough prices, potentially misleading consumers about the true value of the discount.

The exit of NZSale and the forthcoming closure of OzSale signals the end of a significant homegrown e-commerce model in the Australasian region, as the market rapidly consolidates under massive international retail groups.
